Please excuse the slight out-of-date-ness of the information below, written in November 2010 … .
As 2010 comes to an end, I am still continuing my work to help build a cooperative movement of young sustainable farmers and community food activists, along with older allies and mentors, uniting together to connect, inspire and empower the next generations of sustainable agriculture in urban, rural and native New Mexico! Now in Española, I am working to help restore 4 acres of prime historic irrigable land to grow out seed crops next year and establish "El PoRTaL" (Place of Renewal, Transformation, and Learning) as a living outdoor classroom.
In 2007, I apprenticed full-time with a biodynamic CSA farm located in the semi-rural South Valley of Albuquerque, NM; and throughout 2008 I volunteered in the field to help expand another South Valley community farm, led by a local youth empowerment group. Meanwhile, I have coordinated and participated in events around the region to engage hundreds of New Mexican youth with the joys, challenges and opportunities of local sustainable food movements …
